Continuing Education

CME Mission Statement
The CME mission statement is reproduced below. It is reviewed annual by the Education/CME Committee and the Board of Directors, and in 2004 was reaffirmed without change.

The ACMG will provide and sponsor continuing education programs for geneticists, other health care providers, and the public. The primary target audience will be the membership of the College. Content areas include clinical genetics, genetic counseling, cytogenetics, biochemical genetics, and molecular genetics. To fulfill its mission, the ACMG strives to:

  • Sponsor the ACMG Genetics Review Course and other workshops, courses and individual activities as are deemed necessary and/or of interest to its members.
  • Review evaluation results from each ACMG-sponsored program.
  • Conduct assessments to determine the CME needs of its members.

Continuing Medical Education Credit (MDs and PhDs)
This activity has been planned and implemented by the American College of Medical Genetics in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education. The American College of Medical Genetics is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. The ACMG designates the 2009 Genetics Review Course for a maximum of 22 hours in AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ toward the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Continuing Education Units (Genetic Counselors and Nurses)
The National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) has authorized the American College of Medical Genetics to offer a maximum of 22 hours of Category I credit for completing the ACMG Genetics Review Course. The American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) will accept CEUs earned at this program for the purposes of certification and recertification.

Continuing Education Units (Laboratory Directors and Personnel)
The American College of Medial Genetics is an acceptable CEU provider for the National Credentialing Agency for Lab Personnel, Inc.  The College designates the 2009 ACMG Genetics Review Course for a maximum of 22 contact hours of continuing education credit (2.2 NCALP CEUs).
